A poster made for a 1939 Works Progress Administration exhibition, credited to Dorothy Loeb and Blanche Lazzell, shows how two printmakers could share a commission on a public art project. The WPA's Federal Art Project employed artists during the Depression, and its poster division produced eye-catching announcements for shows, classes and community events. Lazzell was known for color woodcuts, often printed from a single block cut back between successive color passes, a method that suited bold graphic posters. The piece is worth noticing for its flat, confident shapes and its place in the Boston and Provincetown printmaking circles of the period.
