A run of dates, June 6 through 24, 1939, is the detail that sets this poster apart, announcing a general exhibition at the Federal Art Gallery in Boston. The Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project employed artists during the Depression, and its posters advertised exhibitions and galleries to the public. Many were made by screenprinting, a method the project's silk screen units used for bold flat color and affordable editions. The lettering and color blocks put the announcement first, which reflects the period's public-information graphics.
