Few posters from the Federal Art Project announced a regional show as plainly as this 1936 silkscreen, which promotes an exhibition of Connecticut artists, with the subject heading placing the show in Boston. The Federal Art Project, part of the federal relief program known as the WPA, employed artists during the Depression and produced posters for exhibitions and events across the country. Its poster workshops used silkscreen because it allowed bold flat color at low cost. A date stamp on the back, May 8, 1939, records when the board was handled three years after it was printed.
