Three artists, Vernon Smith, Charles Heinz, and Charles Kaeselau, are named together on this 1939 poster for a Boston exhibition of watercolors, and the name "Nason" appears in the title as well. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, sponsored the show and used silkscreen printing to make inexpensive posters that could be posted in shops, libraries, and public buildings. Silkscreen let designers work in flat, bold color, and many WPA posters from this period advertised exhibitions, concerts, and classes that gave working artists paid work during the Depression. A March 11, 1939 date stamp on the back helps place it in the spring season of that year.
