This silkscreen poster announces a Boston exhibition featuring Vernon Smith, Charles Heinz, Charles Kaeselau, and a artist listed as Nason, with watercolors among the works on view. It was issued by the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, which employed artists during the Depression and used posters to publicize its exhibitions, classes, and events. The silkscreen method suited the program because it could produce bold, flat areas of color in modest runs at low cost. A date stamp on the back, March 11, 1939, shows when the poster was received or filed.
