Marking 25 summers since the Newport Jazz Festival began in Rhode Island in 1954, this 1978 poster advertises the New York edition of the event, held June 23 through July 2. Milton Glaser, who created the "I Love New York" logo the same year he designed this piece, produced the artwork, and the poster was published in New Orleans, a city central to jazz history. Its subject headings also point to African American performers and their portrayal, a reminder of how much Black musicians shaped the festival's legacy.
