This color poster presents April, May, and June of the 1897 calendar on a single sheet, a layout meant to be hung on a wall and read at a glance. Louis John Rhead, an English-born illustrator who worked largely in the United States, produced it in 1896, the year before the calendar year it was made for. Poster calendars like this were popular in the 1890s, when advances in color lithography made large, bright printing affordable and turned ordinary wall pieces into showcases for graphic design. The date comes from an older caption card and has not been independently verified.
