Few early calendars tie the new automobile so directly to the fashions of the day as this one, issued in New York around 1905 for the year 1906. Motoring was still a novelty then, mostly the pastime of wealthy families, and the clothing it required, including long dusters, goggles, and large hats secured with veils, became a style of its own. Calendars like this were often hung in homes and shops as decorative pieces that showed off modern life. Today it offers a glimpse of how quickly the car and its fashions were entering popular imagery.
