Fenway Park, the ballpark that would become home to the Boston Red Sox, appears here in a glass negative from around 1914, the year it was still a fairly new venue. The image comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, a large body of pictures made by the Bain News Service, a Manhattan agency that sold news photographs to newspapers across the country in the early twentieth century. Fenway opened in 1912 and quickly became one of the defining landmarks of the city, with its famously cramped layout and the Green Monster wall in left field. The date rests on later research by baseball historians rather than a contemporary caption, so it is worth reading with that in mind.
