Fenway Park opened in April 1912 as the home of the Boston Red Sox, and this glass negative captures it as it looked in 1914, the year the Red Sox met the Boston Braves in that autumn's World Series. The image comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress, the archive of a news photo service that supplied pictures to newspapers across the country in the early twentieth century. Bain's photographers were often sent to ballparks and city streets to document events of the day, so the picture offers a sense of how a working news photograph of the period was made. The title was supplied by the news service itself and has not been independently verified, so readers should treat the specific details with some care.
