Few pictures on this board show ordinary travel rather than monuments, and this stereograph card does exactly that. Its title places a group of "natives of Bethlehem" on the road to Jerusalem, and the subject list adds camels and travel on the West Bank in the 1910s. Stereo cards like this were made to be viewed through a special hand viewer, which gave the scene a three-dimensional look that suited armchair tourism at the time. The card was copyrighted by B.L. Singley, a publisher of such views, and it reflects the steady demand in America and Europe for images of the Holy Land as it appeared to travelers.
