The only identifying detail for this negative is its title, "A. Salmaggi," a personal name that the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its caption card. The record does not give a date, a location, or a verified identity for the sitter, so the name should be treated as provisional. Bain News Service was a New York press photography agency founded by George Grantham Bain around 1899. Its glass negatives, produced for newspaper and magazine use in the early twentieth century, were later transferred to the Library of Congress, where they form the George Grantham Bain Collection.
