The record gives only the name "A. Didur," taken from a caption card that the Bain News Service supplied and that the Library of Congress has not verified. The surname matches Adamo Didur, the Polish bass who sang with the Metropolitan Opera in New York during the 1910s and 1920s, a period when Bain's New York operation photographed many performers. Bain's glass negatives, usually 5 by 7 inches or smaller, were quick studio and news portraits that newspapers and magazines could reproduce, which makes this sitter's image typical of that working practice.
