Sottoscrivete al prestito," or "Subscribe to the loan," is a 1917 Italian call to buy government war bonds, printed as a large color lithograph about 130 by 100 centimeters. Italy financed its part of the First World War through a series of national loans, and posters like this one asked ordinary citizens to lend their savings to the state, turning patriotic duty into a financial act. The signature "G. Capranesi" names the designer, and the poster's size suggests it was meant for public walls, where it could be read from across a street. The Library of Congress record notes that a former owner was the Rehse Archiv für Zeitgeschichte und Publizistik, a collection of material on modern history and publishing.
