Issued in 1918, the last year of the war, this Italian color lithograph advertises a national loan, a government bond offering whose title promotes a 5 percent net consolidated annuity, or *rendita*. Italy paid for much of its wartime spending by borrowing from its own citizens, and posters like this one urged ordinary households to buy state bonds as a patriotic duty and a safe investment. The title credits M. Borgoni, and the poster's large format, roughly 100 by 70 centimeters, suggests it was meant for public walls, where it would have reached passersby in towns and cities.
