The Italian headline on this 1917 color lithograph, "Fate tutti il vostro dovere!" ("Everyone must do his duty!"), urges citizens to subscribe to a national war loan through the Credito Italiano bank. It is signed by L. Mauzan, an artist who designed several of Italy's wartime loan posters. Italy had entered the war on the Allied side in 1915, and by 1917 military spending was straining the treasury, so the government relied on public borrowing as well as taxes. Posters like this one framed buying bonds as a patriotic duty for ordinary savers.
