Dated 1915, this color lithograph announces a run of City territorial recruiting rallies from July 12 to August 4, and its printed list of meeting places shows how widely the drive was spread across London. The Territorial Force, created in 1908 as a part-time volunteer army for home defence, came under heavy recruiting pressure after war broke out in 1914, and campaigns like this one sought men to fill its ranks. The poster was printed by the Haycock-Cadle Company of London, a firm that produced many wartime posters. Its plain "Join now" call reflects the urgency of the period.
