A group of longtime workers from the Pension Office, dated May 1, 1920, appears in this glass negative from the National Photo Company. The Pension Bureau occupied the Pension Building in Washington, D.C., completed in 1887, whose great hall has tall Corinthian columns and hosted inaugural balls. The company documented government offices and city life in the capital in the early twentieth century, so the plate offers a glimpse of federal clerical staff just after the First World War. The title comes from unverified data, and the glass shows streaks from age.
