Help! East Prussia is defending your homeland" opens with an urgent appeal addressed directly to the viewer, which sets it apart from many German posters of its time. Printed in 1919, it was issued by the East Prussian branch of the Central Committee for the East German Homeland Service, an organization that worked to rally support for German territory after the First World War. The province faced threats along its eastern borders during the postwar upheaval, and the Versailles settlement left Germans anxious about losing land. The record's subject tags include recruitment, swords, and fortifications, pointing to the militant call to arms that defined the poster's message. The artist, Lotte Haack, is credited on the lithograph.
