Illustrator James Montgomery Flagg, best known for the 1917 Uncle Sam "I Want You" poster, brings his bold, confident style to this 1945 color recruiting poster for the Army Air Forces. The title, "Coming right up!," plays on the eagerness of a young fighter pilot answering the call, a theme that suited wartime enlistment drives aimed at men who dreamed of flying. The Army Air Forces had taken that name in 1941 as the United States expanded its air power, and posters like this one, produced near the end of the war, show how the service tried to draw volunteers into combat aviation.
