Giant Geyser is one of the largest predictable geysers in Yellowstone National Park, and it sits in the Upper Geyser Basin, a cluster of thermal features that includes Old Faithful. Its eruptions can send water well over 100 feet into the air and often last around 10 to 20 minutes, which made it a favorite subject for early photographers and visitors arriving by stagecoach and later by automobile. The Wonderland series, a set of stereo views of Yellowstone, helped popularize images like this one among Americans who would never see the park in person.
