Old Faithful, the geyser that gives this view its name, sits in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park, while Giant Geyser, one of the largest in the world, shares the same frame. The Upper Geyser Basin holds more active geysers than any other thermal area in the park, and visitors have long used the eruption schedule of Old Faithful as a rough timetable for the day. Yellowstone became the first national park in 1872, and scenes like this one helped build public support for protecting its hot springs and geysers.
