A man named Pedro Rodriquez sits mounted on a horse in this glass negative, identified in the caption as a colporteur for the American Bible Society in Caracas, Venezuela. Colporteurs were itinerant agents who sold or gave away Bibles and religious tracts, often traveling on foot or horseback to reach towns with few bookstores. The Bain News Service, whose founder George Grantham Bain built the collection, supplied many of these negatives, and the name and place come from its caption cards, which the Library of Congress notes are unverified.
