Few posters from the Federal theater Project name a state as specifically as this one, which the catalog ties to Iowa productions of the 1930s. It advertises *Rachel's Man*, a play announced under the Federal theater Division of the Works Progress Administration and designed by Bradley Foote in 1936. The Federal theater Project employed actors, designers, and stagehands during the Depression, and its posters, printed by silkscreen, were a cheap, eye-catching way to bring live drama to towns that rarely saw it. The poster's date stamp of July 1937 on the back suggests it was in circulation for some time after it was first printed.
