Single men first" is a text-only lithograph that spells out how the group system would sort men of military age and call them up in turn. Issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in 1915, it is one of a numbered series of notices (this is no. 134) that explained recruiting to the public. The group system grew out of the Derby scheme of late 1915, under which men registered their willingness to serve and unmarried men were called before married men. With no pictures at all, the poster relies entirely on explanation to make the process seem orderly and fair.
