This is a text-only recruiting poster with no illustration at all. It speaks separately to married men and single men and rests its appeal on Prime Minister Herbert Asquith's statement to the House of Commons on November 2, 1915. Issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in London in 1915, it reflects Britain's reliance on voluntary enlistment before conscription began in 1916. Under the Derby Scheme, men could attest their willingness to serve and wait in civilian life until called, and the poster presents that arrangement as a promise to married men. Its quotation of the speech shows how the government tried to win public trust through the Prime Minister's own words.
