Dated November 5, 1923, this glass negative is titled "Wallace & Dept. Heads," which pairs one man's name with a group of department heads. The title came from information the studio wrote on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified, so the identity of Wallace is worth checking. The National Photo Company, which worked in Washington, D.C., made thousands of glass negatives of government officials and public occasions in the early twentieth century. Streaks and blemishes on the plate come from natural deterioration of its original coating, a common condition in glass negatives of this age.
