This glass negative shows Guy C. Riddel, listed in its title as chief of minerals in the Department of Commerce, and is dated August 22, 1924. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio known for press photographs of officials and public events, made it, and Herbert A. French gave it to the Library of Congress in 1947. Part of the caption has rubbed off, so the title relies partly on the company's own notes. Any streaks or blemishes on the glass likely come from the original coatings deteriorating over time.
