The glass negative is titled "Overalls" with "Circus Parade" as its subject, though the record notes that the title comes from unverified Bain News Service data and gives no date. Bain News Service, the New York photo agency founded by George Grantham Bain around 1899, sold pictures of current events to newspapers, and its negatives document much of city life in the early twentieth century. Circus parades, which wound through town streets to advertise an upcoming show, were a favorite subject for news photographers of that era, so this plate fits a familiar tradition of street spectacle. Its small format and the agency's caption information make it worth comparing with other parade pictures in the collection.
