Ice, rather than steel, sets this 1930 view of Munich apart. A sculpture carved from ice appears to stand in for the automobiles about to be shown, as the German title, roughly "Munich anticipates the automobile exhibition," suggests. Munich was a center of German motoring, and its annual motor shows drew large crowds, so a display like this would have announced the coming event to passersby.
