A pair of women in a motorcar, with two men standing beside them, anchors this scene, while a second automobile waits across a river and a biplane flies overhead. The old water mill in ruins on the right adds a contrast between the older rural landscape and the newer machines. The print is a chromolithograph, a color process that was popular for commercial and decorative prints in the early 1900s. It was copyrighted by the Walker Lithograph & Publishing Company of Boston, and the artist is credited as H.C. Ireland. Around 1910, automobiles and airplanes were both still novelties, so the image captures the excitement of that moment.
