Few public art galleries of the period sat as squarely inside a landscaped park as this one, which stands in Delaware Park on Buffalo's north side. The white Beaux-Arts building, with its colonnaded front, was funded by John J. Albright and opened in 1905. Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux had laid out the park decades earlier, so the gallery sits among the broad lawns and mature trees of their design. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for travel views of American cities, recorded the scene on this glass negative in the early 1900s.
