An ivy-covered arch bridge spans a path in Delaware Park, the large green space in Buffalo, New York, laid out in the 1870s by landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. This view dates to about 1908 and was recorded on an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, a format the Detroit Publishing Company used to document American towns, scenery and architecture. The "No. 217" inscribed on the negative suggests it was one of many views the firm catalogued. Notice how the vines soften the stonework and blend the structure into the surrounding trees.
