The 65th Regiment Armory was a drill hall and home base for a New York National Guard unit in Buffalo, a use that made such buildings familiar civic landmarks in cities across the state at the turn of the twentieth century. Armories of this era often combined practical training space with imposing masonry architecture, reflecting both the militia's public role and the growing municipal pride of the period. The view comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its photographic views of American cities and landscapes, many of which were hand-tinted or issued as postcards and souvenir books.
