Bradley's bold lettering and flat areas of color give this 1895 Victor bicycle poster a look that stands apart from most advertising of its day. Will H. Bradley was an American designer who became one of the leading figures in the poster craze of the 1890s, and his work for the Overman Wheel Company helped make the Victor name familiar in cities such as Boston and New York. The lithograph was printed by Harper & Brothers, and it reflects the decorative, European-influenced Art Nouveau style that Bradley brought to American commercial art. The bicycling boom of the mid-1890s made posters like this a common sight on city streets.
