The Victor name on this 1896 color poster belongs to the Overman Wheel Company, a Massachusetts maker whose bicycles were among the best-known brands of the decade. The title also credits Bradley, but the record does not say whether that name refers to the artist, printer, or a related firm. The 1890s were the height of the bicycle craze, when the "safety" bicycle with two wheels of equal size made cycling practical for many more people, including women. Posters like this one used bold color lithography to sell that new freedom of movement, and they now serve as a window into how manufacturers marketed the machines to a broad public.
