Bicycle makers of the 1890s relied heavily on posters, and this one promotes Victor bicycles from the Overman Wheel Company. Will H. Bradley, one of the most influential American graphic designers of the decade, created the design, and Harper & Brothers of New York printed it as a color lithograph in 1895. The bicycle craze of the mid-1890s made cycling fashionable for men and women, and posters like this one competed for attention on busy city streets. Bradley's flat color shapes and decorative lettering reflect the Art Nouveau style that defined much of his work during these years.
