The slogan "365 days ahead of them all" sets this poster apart from the other bicycle advertisements on the board, and it names the Keating Wheel Co. of Holyoke, Massachusetts, a paper-mill city that also became a major center of bicycle manufacturing in the 1880s and 1890s. The bicycle boom of that decade, driven by the safety bicycle and a wave of cycling enthusiasm, made brand competition fierce, and manufacturers turned to bold color lithographs like this one to stand out. The poster was printed by Ketterlinus, a Philadelphia lithographic firm that produced many colorful commercial posters of the period. Its exaggerated claim is typical of the era's advertising, which often relied on bright graphics and confident boasts to win buyers.
