The slogan "Keating Bicycle, 365 Days ahead of them all" makes a bold claim about the machine's reliability, the kind of boast American bicycle makers relied on during the late nineteenth-century sales rush. The chromolithograph was printed by Strobridge & Co. of Cincinnati and New York, a firm that produced many colorful commercial posters, and the bicycle was made by the Keating Wheel Company in Holyoke, Massachusetts, a manufacturing city on the Connecticut River. The caption card gives no date, so the poster is best placed in the bicycle boom of the 1880s and 1890s, when vivid color advertising helped sell an expensive new machine to a growing public.
