The title on this poster, "Keating Bicycle, 365 Days ahead of them all," makes its claim outright: the Keating was sold as a bicycle that always stayed ahead of its rivals. It was printed as a chromolithograph by Strobridge & Co. Lithographers of Cincinnati and New York for the Keating Wheel Co. of Holyoke, Massachusetts, a city that was an early center of American bicycle manufacturing. The caption card gives no date, so the poster is best placed in the late nineteenth-century bicycle boom, when makers used bright, large color prints like this one to advertise their machines to a public that was just learning to ride.
