The record places this residence in Providence, Rhode Island, around 1906, but it gives no further detail about the house itself. It was made as an 8 by 10 inch glass negative, a large format that captured fine architectural features such as window trim, porches, and masonry. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced it, sent photographers across the country from the 1890s into the 1920s to document towns and homes, and its views were issued as postcards and printed souvenirs. Providence was then a prosperous manufacturing city, and its residential streets reflected that wealth.
