Bella Vista, the residence of R.F. Westcott, was photographed in Richfield Springs, a village in Otsego County, New York, known since the 1800s for its mineral springs and summer visitors. The picture is an 8 by 10 inch glass negative dated between 1900 and 1905, bearing a Detroit Publishing Company number. That firm issued many views of resorts and private estates, so the image shows how a country home in a popular spa town was presented to the public around the turn of the century.
