This 1924 color lithograph sets a Western liner beside a Chinese junk, and the pairing is the point: the title promises the largest and fastest steamships to the Orient, while the junks evoke the older sailing trade those ships were meant to outpace. Canadian Pacific ran its Pacific service from Vancouver to Japan and China, and speed was a new selling point in an era when steam crossings were still novel. The poster reflects the art that railways and shipping lines commissioned to draw North American travelers toward distant destinations.
