This halftone, published in the New York Times on December 14, 1941, shows a mural billed as the world's largest, installed at Grand Central Terminal and framed as a contribution to national defense. The paper ran it one week after the attack on Pearl Harbor, when American industry was shifting rapidly toward war production. Grand Central, which had served as one of the country's busiest rail hubs since it opened in 1913, was a fitting public stage for a message about the country's industrial effort. The record does not name the artist, so the picture is best read as a snapshot of wartime civic display.
