This color poster is titled "La Réforme, le 21 Novembre, le masque anarchiste," which translates roughly as "The Reform, November 21, the anarchist mask." Its subject headings name anarchists and homicides, so the image appears to tie a political reform campaign to anarchist violence, a link that would have been pointed in 1890s Europe, when bombings and assassinations by anarchists drew wide press attention. The Brussels imprint from Trommer & Staeves dates it to about 1897. The copyright notice to the Strobridge Lithographing Company of Cincinnati is a reminder that European poster designs were often reproduced and circulated in the United States.
