Mount Pleasant, in Sanpete County, Utah, was a farming town in 1910, settled by Latter-day Saint families in 1852 and still organized around its ward houses and irrigation ditches. Wheat, hay, and livestock, especially sheep and cattle, carried the local economy, and grain and wool moved out over the railroad that by then served the valley's towns. Utah had been a state for fourteen years, and the Manti Temple, dedicated in 1888 a few miles south, drew families from across the valley to its services and ceremonies. The town's fields, orchards, and streets in this view reflect a community that had worked the same bottomland for more than half a century.
