The interior of the Ayasofya Camii, the former Church of Hagia Sophia, shows a building that has served two faiths. The Ottomans converted it into a mosque after the conquest of Constantinople in 1453, and this view captures its colonnades alongside the calligraphy added to its great hall. The photograph was made by the Abdullah Frères studio in Constantinople, and it is one of several mosque views in an album that later became part of a collection associated with Sultan Abdul-Hamid II.
