Few inaugural views from 1905 show the president from the reviewing stand itself, and this stereograph places Theodore Roosevelt at the Pension Building in Washington, D.C., where the parade route passed the official viewing platform. Roosevelt had taken the oath in March 1905 after winning election in his own right the previous fall, and the parade was the public display of that second term. Stereo cards like this one were sold by traveling canvassers, who brought views of national events into American parlors. The paired lenses of the stereoscope would have given viewers a sense of depth across the stands and the marching troops.
