Roosevelt stands aboard the presidential yacht *Mayflower* in this stereograph, watching a naval parade pass off Long Island. The *Mayflower*, a steam yacht the Navy acquired in the late 1890s, served as the president's vessel for summer cruises and ceremonial occasions, and reviews like this one put the chief executive in view of the fleet he had championed. The stereo pair was issued by Underwood & Underwood, a New York firm that sold stereoviews to a large home audience in the early 1900s. Its paired images were meant to be viewed through a stereoscope, which gave a sense of depth to scenes of ships and crowds.
