Annie Oakley, the sharpshooting performer, is the subject here, and the record ties this portrait to c1899 and to Richard K. Fox, the publisher of the Police Gazette, whose copyright notice appears on the print. By that point Oakley was one of the best-known entertainers in the United States, having joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West and toured widely with its shows, where she was famous for hitting targets at a distance and for shooting from horseback. Fox's Police Gazette sold portraits of celebrities like her to a large readership, so the image reflects how performers were marketed in the period. The record comes from an old caption card and is not fully verified, so details should be checked against other sources.
